Chapter 1: Six Weeks Later
Emma never thought she’d find peace in chaos—but somehow, she did.
She left Saxon Media. Moved in with her college roommate in Brooklyn. Got a freelance job writing human-interest stories for an independent magazine. It paid half as much, but gave her something Liam never could—
Control.
And yet, every night when she lay in bed, she thought of his laugh.
His touch.
His absence.
Chapter 2: Love on the Page
One morning, while working from a café in Williamsburg, she got a text from her editor.
“Cover story’s been reassigned. We need you on this instead:
Profile on billionaire CEO Liam Saxon.
You’ve got history—use it.”
Emma’s stomach dropped.
She typed:
“You want me to write a love letter to the man who broke me?”
The reply came quickly.
“We want the truth. Raw. Real. And no one knows him like you.”
Chapter 3: Back Where It Began
Emma arrived at the Saxon Media tower again—only this time, not as his assistant, or lover, but as a journalist.
He stood in the same office. Same view. But he looked different. Tired. Worn. Hollow.
“You came,” he said quietly.
“I’m not here for closure,” she replied. “I’m here for a story.”
He nodded. “Then ask what you want. I won’t lie to you again.”
She clicked her recorder on. “Why did you really shut me out?”
His eyes locked on hers. “Because I was afraid. Of the board. The press. But mostly… of you seeing the worst in me.”
She whispered, “I already did. And I still loved you.”
Chapter 4: No Headlines for This
They talked for hours. Not as CEO and reporter—but as Emma and Liam. Two people still haunted by what almost was.
At the end of the interview, she asked, “What would you say to me, off the record?”
He stepped closer. “That I still check my phone every morning hoping I’ll see your name. That I bought your favorite candle and kept it in my office. That losing you wasn’t just a heartbreak—it was a lesson.”
She looked away, tears in her eyes. “And what did you learn?”
“That love doesn’t survive in silence.”
Chapter 5: The Article That Changed Everything
Emma turned in the article a week later. She titled it:
“The Man Behind the Tower: A Love Story Too Real for Headlines.”
It didn’t reveal the scandals.
It didn’t expose the pain.
It told the truth—his, hers, and everything in between.
The story went viral—not for its gossip, but for its vulnerability.
That night, she got a call from an unknown number.
“Emma,” Liam said, his voice soft. “Meet me on the roof. One last time.”
Chapter 6: The Return
The rooftop was quiet. The city lights below twinkled like stars. He stood there, holding two cups of coffee—just like that night months ago.
“I won’t ask for another chance,” he said, handing her one.
She took it silently.
“But I’ll earn one—if you’ll let me.”
Emma looked at him, eyes fierce yet soft. “No more running.”
“No more lies.”
“No more headlines,” she added.
He smiled. “Just us.”
And this time, when he leaned in to kiss her—she didn’t pull away.
